PROCESS / 003

Built throughexperimentation.

The process is not a straight line. Each tile moves through modeling, fabrication, testing, failure, and refinement until the design feels right.

01STEP

START WITH A QUESTION

Idea

Every collection starts with a material, shape, finish, or construction idea that I want to test.

What if a mahjong tile could be built differently?
02STEP

TURN IT INTO A FORM

Model

The idea is translated into CAD, dimensions are refined, and the tile begins to take physical shape.

Proportion, fit, tolerances, and assembly all get worked out here.
03STEP

MAKE IT REAL

Prototype

Parts are printed, cut, assembled, and tested using different materials and manufacturing methods.

Most versions are not the final version — that is part of the process.
04STEP

CHANGE WHAT DOESN'T WORK

Refine

Edges, weight, finish, color, fit, and construction are adjusted based on what the prototype reveals.

Small changes often make the biggest difference.
05STEP

BUILD THE COLLECTION

Finish

Once the design feels right, the final combination of materials, finish, and construction becomes part of the collection.

The finished tile becomes the starting point for the next experiment.

THE GOAL

Not to recreate the same tile over and over, but to keep finding new ways to build one.
